I am hoping someone can tell me a little more about my Great Great Uncles medal card (very new to this).

I have attached a copy and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Nicky

George was in the Army Service Corps and entitled to the 1914-1915 Star (date of entry into F & F 15/3/15)- the medal will be incribed with his rank at date of entry - private - the British War Medal And Victory Medal will be inscribed with his higher rank/appointment of A/Serjeant.

The annotations against the medals are the Medal Roll references.

It looks as if George was discharged from service on 17/2/18 as medically unfit for service (wounds or sickness) and was granted a Silver War Badge (SWB).

The SWB is worth checking as this may yield further info such as date of enlistment in the event that George's service records do not survive.

Regards

Mel

Hi Nicky,

You have a possible for a division that he might have served in, this can be seen here:

Although he may have just been posted into an ASC Company, see this link for more info:

Many thanks to both of you.

I believe George was discharged because he was medically unfit, he lost his site which I believe was due to an injury whilst serving in the army.

Where would I find more on the SWB ?

I am very new to the army line of research and any pointers in the right direction would be great.

Many thanks

Nicky

Hi Nicky,

The M2 prefix could mean Mechanical Transprt

M: Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport Section

but I have seen it suggested for M2: Army Service Corps, Electricians
