I am researching Private 27387 Harold Mountford of the 12th Battalion of the Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regt), K.I.A. 20th November 1917. Can anyone help with where they were and what happened on that day?

This was a subsidiary attack to the larger and more spectacular affair at Cambrai. 9th Brigade of 3rd Division launched an attack against Bovis Trench at Bullecourt, at 6.28am. "On the right the 12/West Yorkshire met with little opposition, but the 1/Northumberland Fusiliers on the left had a sterner task; many counter attacks were delivered and about 4pm the left company was driven back." nothing in Everad Wyrall,s West Yorkshire Regiment in the Great War.

Only other info that might be of interest is that the 12th Battalion had 11 kia that

day.

7 Pte's,1 A/Cpl and 3 Sgt's.

Roy,

Don't have any info for that day but I do have a bit of background info that may or may not be of use?

The 12th (Service) Bttn was formed in York 16th Sept 1914 as part of K3 attached to 63rd Brigade 21st Division. On 16th Nov 1915 they transferred to 9th Brigade £rd Division then on 17th Feb 1917 they were disbanded reforming with the 8th East Yorks to create 10th Entrenching Bttn.

You could try http://www.1914-1918.net/westyorks.htm
