Lamlash Posted 25 January , 2007 Share Posted 25 January , 2007 Captain Moore was Port Convoy Officer at Lamlash 1917-18. He was awarded the O.B.E. for his services. I am looking for any information on him. Earlier career, address, photograph if possible. Can anyone help or suggest sources?
michaeldr Posted 26 January , 2007 Share Posted 26 January , 2007 I have been able to find the following on the London Gazette, but there may well be more The London Gazette 13 October 1914; see here http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...PageDuplicate=n &issueNumber=28935&pageNumber=0&SearchFor=nithsdale&selMedalType=&selHonourType= Admiralty, 10th October, 1914. In accordance with the provisions of Her late Majesty's Orders in Council of 22nd February, 1870, and 28th November, 1887— Lieutenant Nithsdale Carleton Atkinson Moore has been allowed to assume the rank of Commander on the Retired List. Dated 10th October, 1914. The entry in the London Gazette of 27 May 1919 here http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...;selHonourType= I am open to correction, but I believe this is a CBE [Commander of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire] and not an OBE The London Gazette 6 June 1919; see here http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...PageDuplicate=n &issueNumber=31391&pageNumber=0&SearchFor=nithsdale&selMedalType=&selHonourType= Actg. Capts. (Rtd.) to be Capts. (Rtd.) in recognition of services rendered during the War— Nithsdale C. A. Moore. From 11th Nov. 1918, and not as previously stated. regards Michael ps: Sorry two of the links don't work - don't know why - but you have the dates of the issues of TLG
Lamlash Posted 26 January , 2007 Author Share Posted 26 January , 2007 Many thanks Michael, C.B.E is exactly the information I have. (That's what comes of typing and not reading.) A well deserved award for a remarkable job done with a lack of co-operation bordering on obstruction. Regards, Donald
