Denis Posted 18 January , 2007 Share Posted 18 January , 2007 Any views welcomed regarding exactly what the theatre code reads on the attached MIC. This chap died in June 1916 and is buried in Glasgow. Denis

Stebie9173 Posted 18 January , 2007 Share Posted 18 January , 2007 He has a number that would be typical of a New Army volunteer. I'm no expert of the Regiment but I would say enlistment c. Spring 1915. The 6th Border Regiment (a New Army Battalion) were at Gallipoli until the 21st December 1915, and the 2nd Battalion were there and left on 2nd January 1916. If he was with the 1st or 6th Battalions, he may have joined them on Gallipoli and almost immdeiately left with them, or alternatively, many men's commencement of service in the Balkans (2b) theatre of war was actually deemed to have commenced upon arrival at the islands of Mudros or Lemnos, so he may have landed there been classed as arriving in a theatre of war and then joined his battalion in Egypt. A check of the Medal rolls held at the National Archives would probably tell you exactly which battalion he was posted to. Steve.
