Jarvis Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 I am new to interpretting MIC and would appreciate some help. I have obtained 2 MICs for George Peat Sneddon S/4/D55789 ASC and wondered if someone could walk me through as to what can be discovered. I am also a little perplexed to discover there are no mentions of his other medals. Is there another MIC I have missed ? The two I discovered are WO/372/24 and WO/372/23. kpm Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 Hi, Have you tried this one:- Medal card of Sneddon, George Corps: Army Service Corps Regiment No: S4/555789 Rank: Private... 1914-1920 WO 372/18 Ian.
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 He was a Sergeant then acting Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant in the Army Service Corps. He was awarded the DCM which was promulgated in the London Gazette 4th June 1917 in a list of similar awards The Citation "Cit" on Card would have been published in the LG of 9th July 1917 The other "Card" suggests a Mention in Despatches LG 13th July 1916 page 6951. I expect there is a third Card possibly mispelt or with another number for his Campaign Medals
Stebie9173 Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 The two cards appear to be a DCM Card (WO372/23, left) and a MID card (WO372/24, right) You are missing his campaign medals card. I think his card is probably this one: Medal card of Sneddon, George Corps Regiment No Rank Army Service Corps S4/555789 Private Army Service Corps S4/555789 Warrant Officer Class 2 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...;resultcount=25 Announcement of DCM: London Gazette 4-6-1917 S4/055789 Sjt. He has consistently performed good work throughout, and has at all times set a splendid example. http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...;selHonourType= Steve. Coldstreamer Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 note that sneddon is spelt over 2 lines making it harder to find - you just beat me stebie!
Stebie9173 Posted 13 January , 2007 Share Posted 13 January , 2007 His MID is here: War Office, 12th July, 1916. With reference to the despatch published on the 10th April (London Gazette, No. 29541), the following are mentioned for distinguished and gallant services rendered during the period of General Sir Charles Monro's Command of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force; — ARMY SERVICE CORPS Sneddon, S/4/055789 Serjt. G. P. http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...;selHonourType= Here is the Despatch itself, though they rarely mention individual soldiers (and almost never below the rank of Colonel): http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...;selHonourType= Looks like he spent at least some of his time in Egypt and/or Gallipoli. Jarvis Posted 13 January , 2007 Author Share Posted 13 January , 2007 I have already done some preliminary research and George Peat Sneddon was in the Suvla bay landings at Gallipoli. I had never got around to his MICs etc untill now. Being relatively new to MICs, etc, I thought I would post them and ask advice as to what can be interpreted from them. I now have the third card (thanks folks for your help) which is a bit more confusing. I have posted info on george Peat Sneddon previously and included scans of his Despatches, etc.
