Grovetown Posted 9 January , 2007 Share Posted 9 January , 2007 Saw this interesting - and what appears to be authentic - item on eBay. T S S Hood Prop and Photo The seller describes the subject - FSLt Hood - as having been on anti-shipping patrol off Holland. But interestingly, TSTB gives us more and relates the loss of Handley Page 0/100 3115 of 7 Sqn RNAS after daylight bombing of German destroyers off Ostende. Forced to ditch by enemy aircraft, French seaplanes attempted a rescue of the crew, but were attacked by German motor boats. Of the crew, Flight Sub-Lieutenant Hood was MIA then reported KIA; GL Watson was PoW then DoW, AM FC Kirby was WIA and AC2 Danzey, again, PoW and DoW. This was the first Handley Page bomber involving a casualty due to enemy action; and the action prompted the switch to night ops. Not my bag as such, but an interesting thing nonetheless IMHO. Best wishes, Grovetown.
