McIntee Posted 27 November , 2003 Posted 27 November , 2003 I've been looking round on ebay for the 1914 - 1915 star and I've come across both the medal and the miniature. Question for anyone in the know; From when does the miniature originate, why are there miniatures and did everyone get one? Thank you, John
trenchwalker Posted 27 November , 2003 Posted 27 November , 2003 the minature were worn on home service tunics (the red tunics with the big pointy hat) i dont think that every one got them.
AndrewThornton Posted 27 November , 2003 Posted 27 November , 2003 No, miniature medals are worn with Mess Kit, or if in civilian dress on occassions when the wearing of full-size medals is inappropriate, usually dinners. Full-size medals were worn in Full Dress, mentioned by Trenchwalker. Miniature medals are not officially issued and were usually available at the individual officer's tailor - I must explain that in the period after the Great War that officers had miniatures to wear with their mess kit, the Sergeants and Corporals did not wear mess kit until after the Second World War.
