tamos123 Posted 8 January , 2007 Share Posted 8 January , 2007 Hi All Were there any rules relating to service records that showed service on a ship that had been sunk ending the day she sank or an official date that the sailor would be shown as left service on her. Does this make sense? ie HMS Warrior sank 1/6/16 yet a service record for one on board shows service date to 13/6/16 many thanks T
joseph Posted 8 January , 2007 Share Posted 8 January , 2007 T, Did the man survive? that could be the day he joined his next ship, if he died that is the day he was reported missing presumed dead. Regards Charles
tamos123 Posted 8 January , 2007 Author Share Posted 8 January , 2007 Hi He did survive so suppose is service could be determined by when his next appointment started not when his ship went down? regards T
sadsac Posted 9 January , 2007 Share Posted 9 January , 2007 Tomos, date given different to the date of loss of the boat / ship would be the `paying off date'. This is the date that the family would be payed up to for his service RN. After that he would DD (Discharged Dead). Sadsac
