spoons Posted 26 December , 2006 Share Posted 26 December , 2006 I only have the book and it is sorted by Regt/Corps so regrettably can only do lookups if you have the surname and Regt/Corps. For larger collections of Regt/Corps, I could probably scan and email (don't think there is copywrite on anything this old!)

Hope the size of list isn't too off-putting. Many thanks. Hi Jarvis, afraid there is not so much detail in the book, I understand that for soldiers you often get the home address, but not so with officers. Here is what I found for the first on the list: Berry, George Wilfred, A/Lt, KIA 25/8/17 and he served with 5th Bn Territorial He is also on the Barnard Castle memorial which I found here: http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Durham/BarnardCastle.html There is actually more on the CWGC website: Name: BERRY, GEORGE WILFRED Initials: G W Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Second Lieutenant Regiment/Service: Durham Light Infantry Unit Text: 19th Bn. Age: 33 Date of Death: 25/08/1917 Additional information: Son of Thomas and Margaret S. Berry, of 11, Montalbo Terrace, Barnard Castle, Co. Durham. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: E. 27. Cemetery: VILLERS-FAUCON COMMUNAL CEMETERY Note that CWGC says 19th Bn but this does not exist in my book at all, probably needs to be explained by someone else. I will get back to the the others tomorrow (just from my book of course)
Jarvis Posted 27 December , 2006 Share Posted 27 December , 2006 Thanks for your help spoons. I have CWGC for this chap already but thanks. I guess 'Officers' has only limited information. Some of the list I supplied I have a little info on, some nothing more than a name and rank. I am doing a preliminary research on what I can via the web and then plan to follow it up with in depth research via Kew and regimental archives at a later date. To date I have close to 200 hundred names to research, of which 80 are identified as definites, 70 as possibles and the rest .... ? I appreciate your efforts. DaveBrigg Posted 29 December , 2006 Share Posted 29 December , 2006 Hi Can I trouble you for a name that I have been struggling with for over a year. Capt Frederick John Huskinson, killed 1st July 1916. He served with the Manchester Regt and Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, but despite help from the forum, I have no idea who he was with when he died. CWGC says Inniskillings,, but there is no mention in the Regt history. Any help gratefully appreciated. Dave

Dave Hi Dave, no mention under Manchesters, under Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers: Huskinson, Frederick John, Capt., k in a 1/7/16 (nothing in additions and corrections at the end of the book) not much help I am afraid Very unusually, no Battalion is shown - could it be he was serving with an HQ or something? \Paul

DaveBrigg Posted 30 December , 2006 Share Posted 30 December , 2006 Many thanks for the look-up Paul. It's looking like he was with the Inniskillings, but where and in what capacity I don't know. Even his service records at Kew have disappeared.
