I am having difficulty tracing my father-in-law's records.

His # was J 33572. We know this to be correct because we have several of his medals which show this number.

He was born in 1898 and was awarded the 1914/15 Star among others so this would have put him in the Service about 1913/14.

He came out of the Navy about 1935 as a CPO but rejoined in 1938 and served until the end of the war.

On one of his Gunner History Sheets there is a notation at one point which states his number as "JX 164434 late J33572"

I can find no records of these numbers.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

The Fleet Air Arm Museum has all the enlistment papers of 1908-1919 from J1 to J96326 so he should be in there. The papers can, however, be searched only by number, not by name.

I'm surprised you cannot find him at the NA. Post all his details and I am sure one of our experts will wave his magic wand.

Thank you both for your replies. Very helpful.

I suppose I should have given his name in my initial enquiry.

It was Patton John Henry born 6 Sept 1898. so I'm certain now that you picked it correct Hugh.

Thanks once again fellers

Ernie
