nettie0036 Posted 10 December , 2006 Share Posted 10 December , 2006 hi, i am researching my Step Fathers family and his father served with the Royal Marines during ww1, all we know is that he was injured at the Dardanelles. Before we continue with our research i would like to buy him a book which would explain to him the involvement of the marines , the general concept of the marines and their history. Can anyone recommend a good book? thanks jeanette
jay dubaya Posted 10 December , 2006 Share Posted 10 December , 2006 Hi Jeanette, there's one here Haven't read it, but I guess it's a good starting point, cheers Jon
horatio2 Posted 11 December , 2006 Share Posted 11 December , 2006 Jeanette The most recent overall history, which I can strongly recommend, is "The Royal Marines - From Sea Soldiers to a Special Force" by General Julian Thompson RM. He led the Royals in the Falklands and knows his subject intimately. He covers the entire history of the RM right up to date. He also writes well - always a bonus. Enjoy!
