Monnaux Posted 4 December , 2006 Share Posted 4 December , 2006 Hi, My Grandfather was a pre-war regular soldier in the 1st East Surrey since 1910. He was still serving with the 1st East Surrey when the mobilization began. According to his medal card, he first arrived in a theatre of War on 11/9/1914 and yet his battalion left Dublin on the 13/08/1914 and arrived in Le Havre on the 15/08/1914. I would like to know if someone in the Forum might have seen medal cards from other 1st East Surrey pre-war regulars to find out which day is noted on their card. Can someone help, please? Also, can someone give me information on the note that reads someting like "blast 103 MM" or "blast 103YY " in the remarks part of the card. I do not know if this is a remark or a specification regarding his 1914 Star. Gerald
Armoured Farmer Posted 4 December , 2006 Share Posted 4 December , 2006 Gerald, The note you mention is, I think, Clasp 10377. Which refers to the Clasp and Roses awarded with the 1914 Star. The exact note was to do with the production or issuing of the Clasp. See here: - http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad6.htm#14 Regards Hugh
Monnaux Posted 5 December , 2006 Author Share Posted 5 December , 2006 Thank you very much Hugh. Does anyone know what the 10377 may refer to? Gerald
Armoured Farmer Posted 5 December , 2006 Share Posted 5 December , 2006 Does anyone know what the 10377 may refer to? Probably a reference number for correspondence to do with the clasp.
