Guest happymech Posted 30 November , 2006 Share Posted 30 November , 2006 I have just started reading "Battle on The Tigris" and recommend it to all those interested in the reasons behind the tragedy of Mespot. "The Turkish Front 1914 - 1918" by Field Marshal Lord Carver (ISBN 0 283 07347 0) is another fine source of information. My first posting mentioned Charles Townshends' speech to the Empire Club of Canada in 1920. I had trouble with its address, so will try again. If it does not work for you, I suggest you use Google to find it. http://empireclubfoundation.com/details.as...2567&FT=yes. I have no real comments about his remarks, but feel sorry for my grandfather, who was a drummer for the 2nd Dorsets, and returned home baddle disfigured after the early months of the campaign. Good reading, Happymech
