Looking to add to my research on men from Barry, South Wales who won the DCM in the Great War. Does anyone have R. W. Walker's book to enable me to check a few awards?

Thanks!

Jonathan

Terry,

If you're opening your book can I scrounge a look up for 7609 Cpl. John H. PRESTON 2nd Norfolk Regt please? He was awarded the DCM in Mespot 1915. I have the LG (5th Aug 1915) details but wonder if there is anything further to add. Many thanks.

As mentioned by Coldstreamer, there are only basic details in the book. The entry for Preston is:

- 7609 Cpl. Preston,J.H. 2 Bn M 5.8.15

The M indicates Mesopotamia.

Anyone looking for more detailed information will be disappointed.

Thanks, Terry,

‘The Barry Docks News’ for 1914-1918 mentions these men:

Private Grant in 1915. He’s the one I’m really stuck on. No regiment.

Private Albert Bugler, aged 17, of the 9th Devonshire Regiment in September 1915.

Corporal Frank Harvey of the 1/5th Welsh Regiment November 1915

Private Alfred Robert Hole of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers July 1916

Sergeant H. J. Sheppard of the Gloucestershire Regiment, October 1916

Company Sergeant Major Arthur Tucker, 11th Bn. Welsh Regt. November 1916.

Private Gilbert James Harvey of the South Lancashire Regiment September 1917.

Sergeant C. Radford of the 8th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry May 1918

Sergeant Alfred T. Brooks of the 2nd Glamorgan Fortress Royal Engineers June 1918

Acting Squadron Sergeant-Major Tom Vincent of the 1st King Edward’s Horse June 1918.

Second Lieutenant Edwin Grant of the Machine Gun Corps July/August1918

Bombardier J. Crook of the Royal Field Artillery September 1918

Sergeant S. G. Byard of the Royal Field Artillery October 1918

Any confirmation/information would be gratefully received.

Many thanks!

Jonathan

Yes, all DCM winners according to the paper. Strange about Bugler - big fuss made about him several weeks in a row in the paper.

Thanks,

Jonathan
