Terry Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 The CWGC site lists 3479 Pte.B.W.Collins,1/Monmouths, as died on 28 Apr.,1916; and "Soldiers Died..." states that he died of wounds on that day. However, when I downloaded Collins' MIC, there is the notation: K in A 13-10-15. Any ideas?
Tom Morgan Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 No idea really, Terry, but I wonder if someone made a clerical error and got his "Collinses" mixed up? There were three soldiers called Collins KIA on 13.10.15. I wonder if maybe someone just picked up the wrong "Collins" card when adding the note? peter__m Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 That sounds about right to me. I know when I was researching my great grandfather Lance Sergeant James Mullan there were a lot of inconsistencies that I had to wade through. However I would go with the graves information as correct and assume some sort of human admin error back at home.
Terry Posted 28 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 28 November , 2006 Thanks, fellows. I have to admit I was puzzled over this one!
Tom Morgan Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 Terry, I agree with Peter - the CWGC and SDGW records are likely to be the correct ones. For one thing they both agree, and for another, they both came from the man's regimental records in the first place. Tom
