Guest Michael Hall Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 I have a postcard picturing the Lusitania in Liverpool and, on the reverse, it is addressed to my late aunt M. Hall (I believe; May) in Cardiff and it reads: 2/2 North Midland Brigade RFA 59th Division Kingstown Ireland Liverpool Thursday Crossing to Ireland tonight Cheerio EHD (or could be ELD) Write to me address On the postal franking, the only words legible are Liverpool and May Do the initials mean anything to anyone? Does anyone know where Kingstown is? Does anyone know when that Brigade first went there? I presume they would not sell postcards of the Lusitania after she sank which was 14.10 on Friday 7th May 1915 so I presume he could have been on board but, if the Brigade had been in Ireland the previous May, it could be then but, again, I don’t know how often she sailed as I presume she was continuing on to America. historydavid Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 Michael, the Lusitania's last voyage was from New York to Liverpool and she was sunk off southern Ireland. Best wishes David
ZackNZ Posted 29 November , 2006 Share Posted 29 November , 2006 Michael There is heaps of information on the Lusitania. It's sinking angered a huge number of troops - similar response to the executive of Nurse Edith Cavell! An available book that may answer some of your questions is Exploring the Lusitania by Robert D Ballard with Spencer Dunmore - ISBN 0-297-81314-5. Amazon is certain to have copies. The following website is also useful: http://www.geocities.com/titanicandco/lusitania.html Zack
