AndyHollinger Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Family legend has it that Grandfather, Edward Bates Hollinger, worked with Pershing during the Poncho Villa affair. This would make sense since he was a "retired" Texas Ranger in far west Texas at the time. Further, the legend says that Pershing took Grandfather back to DC with him as some sort of adjunct person ... but that he was one of the escorts for the German Amb. on his trip back to Holland at the American entrance to the war in 1917. Does anyone know where I could find out if this legend is true? In researching Grandfather, I have found CSA discharge, at least 4 wives and some interesting Brand irregularities, part ownership in a Cotton Gin, etc. and his enlistment in the Texas Rangers, Frontier Company - where he lied about his age. I know he was in Philidelphia in 1918 and this legend explains why. But looking for something about the escort party ....
