Chris_Baker Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Can anyone tell me the significance of a W/ prefix on the numbering of men who served with the Royal Field Artillery? A quick search on SDGW shows that casualties with this prefix begin from July 1916, with one exception in August 1915.

Chris_Baker Posted 18 November , 2003 Author Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Blimey, I hadn't thought of that. It's obvious. The chap I am researching that led to the question died while serving with 5th Division. There is no service file on him so I'm trying to figure him out just from the medal rolls (he got the pair only) and CWGC record. He came from Oldham.
