carolgriff Posted 25 November , 2006 Share Posted 25 November , 2006 Hi I have my grandads medal card- Edward Niles. Can anyone help me understand it, ive tried to attach it but cant- im useless. It states DLI Depot and date of discharge? looks like 14/11/1917. the date under it looks like 23/08/1916. It shows he got the Vctory medal and British. His number looks like B8610 and he was a private. My mam tells me he had shrapnel in his leg, lost some toes and had a bad chest due to being gassed. She also says he told her he and his brothers joined the DLI before the war and that they were in India where they were shipwrecked. I have checked absent voters lists and he isnt on them so i assume he was home 1918. He survived the war. He was a coal miner living in Thornley Co Durham and was born 1890. If anyone can help with any info re what the medal card means, ideally letting me know what regiment he would have been in as the gassing and shrapnel make me think he was in France or Belgium, even though Depot on the card makes me think he spent some time in the army in England. Anything would be of help and interest as I am clueless. Carol

mhifle Posted 25 November , 2006 Share Posted 25 November , 2006 Hi, Right click on the file. Go to "Open with" Select "paint" This will open the file as a "bmp file" On the menu at the top go to "Image" Go to "Stretch/skew" You can then reduce the Horizontal and Vertical from 100%. Press OK On the menu at the top go to "File" Select "Save as" In "Save as type" box select "JPEG" and save the file. Then check the file size is under 100KB under properties. Regards Mark Hi If anyone can tell me how to reduce the size of the medal card, ill try my best. Thanks for the advice carol

mhifle Posted 25 November , 2006 Share Posted 25 November , 2006 If you open the Adobe file, then press the "Print Screen" key on your keyborad. You can then open a empty/blank bmp file and right click to paste in the image of your screen. Then save it as a JPEG file. Mark Hi Im obviously daft as i cant do it.
