My father was an able seaman in the TYNESIDE RNVR 1914 TO1919 he fought at GALLIPOLI and was wounded at the BATTLE OF THE SOMME in JULY 1916 the inscribtion shown on his 1914/1915 medal isT.Z.1420 J LOWDON A.B.R.N.V.R from this can anyone tell what division he was in, and any other imformation would be accepted gratefully. NORMAN LOWDON.

Your father fought with the Royal Naval Division (RND) (later, when in the BEF, the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division). You can find his original attestation forms and his RND Record Card at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. They will give you the full story of his service and tell you which battalion(s) he served with. You can also download a copy of his RND Record Card from the National Archive (£3.50 a pop).

He was in action at the end of the Somme battles in Oct and Nov 1916, not Jul 1916.

Quite correct. But be aware that sometimes information on the NA microfiche copies is concealed by the sticky tape that was used to bind the cards together. This tape has been removed from the original cards that are now at the FAA Museum.
