Roy James Fitzgerald was an original member of the 12th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment ('Bristol's Own'). He had been captured by the Germans on 8th May 1917 at Fresnoy and escaped later in the year making his way back his battalion, at that time in Italy.

Sometime in 1918 he transferred to the RFC/RAF and was subsequently killed on 1st July 1918.

Can anyone add anything to his time with the RAF and what happened on 1st July?

Thanks

Dean

Flying with Lt A Mcgregor as pilot in a BRISTOL F2B of 35th squadron, Lt R J Fitzgerald MC was in combat above Coisy when the machine was shot up.

Fitzgerald is listed as "killed in the air"

Bob.
