Black Watch Posted 20 November , 2006 Share Posted 20 November , 2006 As your grandfather was born in 1900, he would theoretically be unable to have qualified for 1914 or 1914/15 star. If any of your cards have stars on them then, unless he enlisted well under age, they cant be for him. Neil
Michael Posted 20 November , 2006 Share Posted 20 November , 2006 Also, unless he was under age on enlistment he wouldn't have a pre 1917 TF number (the 4 digit number in the first card). I would appeal to the enthusiasts of the different Regiments by starting new threads with the Regt in the title. They may be able to determine enlistment dates from the numbers Mick

Stebie9173 Posted 6 February , 2007 Share Posted 6 February , 2007 The medal roll references are rather arcane. Broken down: C/ - Cheshire Regiment medal office. 2/ - Don't know. Possibly 2nd district or a later issue? 103 B19 - The reference to a Medal roll ledger issued by said Medal office. 1378 - The page with his entry on it. You will need to consult the Medal roll for his battalion. I know some people have at least partial rolls of the battalion copied. Changing the title of this Topic (edit your first post) may attract them... The Devonshire number looks very strange. It may be a mistake which the Medal rolls may be able to correct. You could also try the specialist Manchester Regiment forum at: http://www.themanchesters.org/index.htm (I'm having trouble connecting at the moment, though) Steve.
