dosborne Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 Hi All Was reading Aces and Aircraft of WWI (Campbell -- Treasure Press) and was amazed to find that the famous prancing horse insignia on Ferrari motor vehicles originally adorned the aircraft (Spad) of the Italian ace Franceso Baracca (91a Squadriglia) His mother gave the insignia to Enzo Ferrari (Who was a racing driver at the time) at the end of the war, and as they say -- The rest is history ! Marco Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 Francesco Baracca's memorial is on the bottom of the page in this link: http://www.xs4all.nl/~aur/Battlefields/italytravel.htm Wonder if he'd been a Schummi fan? He fought them, so I would guess not. Regards, Marco
MikeW Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 He fought them, so I would guess not. Don't be too hasty there, there is a rumour that he copied the insignia which is thought to be based on the insignia of ther city of Stuttgart. The "Cavallino Rampante" was first used by Enzo Ferrari on Alfa racing cars when he was managing a race team.
