My father-in-law, Arthur Herbert Holmes, served in the Royal Engineers in the ranks, number 185308, from 03/08/1916 to 10/02/1917 and as an officer, Lieutenant, from 11/02/1917 until 01/05/1920. He relinquished his commision on 30/09/1921. He was awarded the British War and Victory medals. He was an architect in civilian life. I am interested in any reords about him. What he would have been doing. Any photographs that are avaiable of R Engineers.

you could search officer papers at the NA.

FYI - Ive found papers for W E Hutchinson under W Hutchinson - middle names often not on the index at the NA
