Dikke Bertha Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 I have just started reading this book and wondered if anybody has any views?? I searched the forum and did not find any previous threads on this book. Bought it remaindered for 9.99 euro. It is well illustrated and reminds me of a hardback Osprey Campaign Series book. Any comments appreciated.
Halder Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 I have just started reading this book and wondered if anybody has any views?? Any comments appreciated. My sentiments entirely. A very readable book on a battle which most English speakers have never heard of. Much more accessible than Dennis Showalter's book (which is the definitive account). From memory I think Edmund Ironside wrote a book in the mid 20s. Apart from that, there's just Golovin's work and Knox's account, plus bits in Hindenburg, Hoffmann's and Ludendorff's memoirs. I've long toyed with writing a book on Tannenberg, but I'm not sure how much first-person material from the ordinary soldiers is out. The inability to speak Russian is also a bit of a problem.
