Remembered Today:

Interpreting card of H. G. Arnott RAMC

Hi,

I was given this medal card of a Canadian doctor, Henry G. Arnott that served in the RAMC. I was hoping someone could help me with this. I don't know what the information under "Roll" and "Remarks" means.

Under "Roll" it says OFF/141 and

under "Remarks" it says (I think) IV.X/4971 df- 77.2.14.NW/5/29910

The following is a link to a scan of the card.

Thank you for your help.

The "Roll" refers to the Mexdal Roll. These are books held at the National Archives at Kew. In this case the R.A.M.C. Officers (OFF/) Roll 141, page 800 (?). These actually don't tell us much more than the Medal Card in most cases for officers but may be worth a look just in case.

The Remarks will refer to correspondence, but these references don't mean anything these days.

Steve.

Promotions are published in the London Gazette.

An R.A.M.C. officer was commissioned into the Army as a Lieutenant rather than a Second Lieuteant.

I can't find his commission as these usually need his full name to find, but he relinquished his commission on 3rd May 1918.

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for the reply. This is a great help. Dr. Henry Arnott was born In London, Ontario. He had also lived in Hamilton prior to the war. Thanks again for your help.
