Andy Posted 5 November , 2006 Share Posted 5 November , 2006 Bit of a mystery this one... I have been asked by a friend if I could find details regarding his Great Grandfather. Part of his family say he died due to the effects of gas in WW1, the other part of the family think he survived. Anyway his BWM has him as William Henry West, 1081, West Yorkshire Regiment. No hits on CWGC or Soldiers Died. A postcard from him has been found my friend, and it was sent to South Crescent, Sowerby Rd, Thirsk. This may have been his home address. Any West Yorkshire Regiment or Thirsk specialists out there? Regards, Andy Fitton
sotonmate Posted 5 November , 2006 Share Posted 5 November , 2006 Andy This soldier is on medal roll WO372/21 at the National Archive as 1018 Corporal West Yorkshire Regt, and 605481 Corporal Labour Corps. The image reference is 92220/19529. The Burnt Records reference is WO363/W786 and /W882 for all the WEST William Hs. I didn't find anything on CWCG either ! Best wishes Sotonmate
