kin47 Posted 5 November , 2006 Share Posted 5 November , 2006 Hello Can anyone out there give me the name of the British Army officer reported lost with the entire crew and naval passengers on the USS TAMPA (a former US Coast Guard vessel)? Many thanks and all best don
Lörscher Posted 6 November , 2006 Share Posted 6 November , 2006 Hi Don ! I can only give details from the book "The Coast Guard in World War I" by Alex R. Larzelere, Naval Institure Press, 2003: 111 coast guardsmen (7 officers, 4 warrant officers, 100 enlisted men), 4 US Navy personnel and 16 british passengers - one NAVAL officer, ten enlisted men, five civilians So, are you sure it was an ARMY officer ? kin47 Posted 7 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 7 November , 2006 Hello Oliver Always good to hear from you. I have the names of all the casualties, but this last officer. The US Navy Personnel were three officers and one enlisted man. For the RN, I have ten ratings and five Admiralty Civilians. I don't have a naval officer listed. The NEW YORK TIMES in reporting the loss and listing the casualties identified the officer as British Army. All best don

Several sites (unsourced) identify your man as a British Army Captain. Two USCG bodies from this loss washed up on the coast of Wales (Pembrokeshire, I understand) - you may find something by contacting the Pembrokeshire Record Office - email Claire.Orr@Pembrokeshire.gov.uk or write to them at The Castle, Haverfordwest SA61 2EF - newspapers, coronial inquests etc... good luck.
