PTurner Posted 4 November , 2006 Share Posted 4 November , 2006 Hi folks, Am researching my great uncle (Pte James Turner) who enlisted in the Royal Scots Fusiliers on 24.04.14. From what I can see they seemed to enlist from Ayrshire and Glasgow, but his family all seem to come from Bathgate and the east coast. Does anybody have any idea of the regions that the Royal Scots Fusiliers recruited in and if there are any lists of volunteers? Regards -Paul
Malcolm Posted 4 November , 2006 Share Posted 4 November , 2006 Hi Paul, Mostly Lanarkshire and Stirlingshire but Regiments did recruit from anywhere they could. Your avatar by tje way is the Badge of the Royal Scots and not Royal Scots Fusiliers, did you mean that?? Aye Malcolm
PTurner Posted 4 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 4 November , 2006 Hi Malcom, Thanks. Yeah I did mean it to be the Royal Scots. After fighting with the Royal Scots Fusiliers he went on to serve with the Royal Scots, was wounded and finished off serving with the Royal Defence Corps. RSF Posted 4 November , 2006 Share Posted 4 November , 2006 Hi Paul The pre war make up of the Regular Bat's was as has been said Ayrshire and Glasgow with quite a large London intake. Casualties form the 1st and 2nd bat's in 1914 do however show a good sprinkling from all areas of Scotland. cheers John
