wulsten Posted 31 October , 2006 Share Posted 31 October , 2006 Does anyone know the relationship of the wo329 medal rolls and the relationship to service numbers. I am trying to trace the medal roll to a soldier who served with the North Staffs Regt No 6288 A Hamilton. His Mic appears to be missing & dont know for sure if he was transferred or not. Can anyone help WO 329/1576 North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's) WO 329/1577 WO 329/1578 WO 329/1579 WO 329/1580 WO 329/1581 WO 329/1582 WO 329/1583 WO 329/1584 WO 329/1585 WO 329/2245 WO 329/2472 WO 329/2510 WO 329/2783 WO 329/2784 WO 329/2785 WO 329/2951 WO 329/3267 WO 329/3272
Armoured Farmer Posted 1 November , 2006 Share Posted 1 November , 2006 Hell, You may be lucky. Most Medal Rolls follow either an alphabetical sequence or a numerical one. Be warned though, if alphabetical they are in many cases in a few recurring sequences, ie, A to Z then A to Z repeated again, also there are always additions at the end. Again, if in numerical order they contain gaps. You're biggest worry is if he transferred and is recorded on the medal roll of another regiment. At Kew in the Microfilm Reading Room there is a brown book with details of all WO 329 rolls that shows how a regiment/corps organised their rolls. Only WO 329/1576 to 1585 are BW&VM rolls for other ranks. If he was commissioned and didn't die durng the war then he would have to claim his own medals. There is a possibility that he did not do this. I'll email a mate who works at the Staffordshire Regiment Museum and see if he can turn anything up. Armoured Farmer Posted 2 November , 2006 Share Posted 2 November , 2006 Hello, No joy I'm afraid. Here's his reply re Hamilton 6288: - [Have checked indexes and medal rolls at the museum for the above. Only two Hamiltons located 34834 M Hamilton 1NSR 38486 W. Hamilton 1NSR both in the index of the Battalion for 1914-15, neither appears in the Hospital Book 1NSR so they either survived or were KIA. I even checked the Sudan medal Roll thinking he may have been an old sweat but alas no Hamiltons there either.] Sorry I couln't tell you anything more positive.
