Guest Jbert Posted 19 October , 2006 Share Posted 19 October , 2006 Some years ago I came across a small item in "The Times" from the war, concerning a churchman who was trying to enlist women to marry those British soldiers who were terribly wounded or scarred. I think the church was in London. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing and, if so, how did it go. Thank you.

One of her brother's close friends was blinded on the Western Front, and she intended to marry him and devote her life to him to atone for the sacrifice that he and her fiancé had made. Perhaps fortunately, given her self-absorption, he died quite soon. If I discover anything more, I'll inform you. Cheers Vervos
