I was looking through mic downloads and I came across this.

post-13680-1161043579.jpg

Looks like Dutch LJ (possibly LI - Light Infantry) att K.A.R.

then further down it says "Blue Ringed"

I cant find this guy on the National archives. I've searched under his name and number seperately and together. Anyone know what Unit he was with?

Duh stupid me...........Durham LI att Kings African Rifles I read number as 14330 it was 17330.

Still wondering about Blue Ringed though.

Your "Dutch" might read "Durban Light Infantry" which would make sense since it is all Africa.

The initials "DLI" were very confusing as some read Durham L.I. and others read Durban L.I.

Cap badges showed the same initials as well until the Durban L.I. changed theirs after the war.

From the card we know he survived the war :- 'Cl Z' in the notes showing discharged to Class Z Army Reserves, see: -

http://www.1914-1918.net/reserve.htm

He is also on two rolls for BW&VM, the second being Colonial. Perhaps the 'Blue Ringed' has something to do with the entry on that roll, the note follows it, but I cannot tell if it is in the same hand.

Oh to be able to look at these things in colour!

Farmer

I wouls say "att KAR" would possibly mean "Attached Kings African Rifles". Not uncommon among some officers and some senior ranks MIC's.

Graham.

Dooh - you already worked that one out.
