Buxton Hospital Staff

The names of some of the individuals are shown on the reverse of one of these identical postcards

The photographer is Hunters of Buxton. Other Buxton hospital postcards acquired in the same batch show a date of 1915 and the initials NTB

Is there anywhere which has lists of staff at the Buxton Hospitals?

It appears to be a picture of Voluntary Aid Detachment staff. The VAD were members of the British Red Cross and Order of St John.. The two nurses, Nos 5 and 6 in the back row , from the right, are wearing St John's brassards on their right arms.

It may be worth contacting the British Red Cross Society Archives who hold a card index of many VAD's. Their address can be found on the internet.

Out of interest the following VAD hospitals were in Buxton:

St John's VAD Hospital, Royal Exchange Buildings

St John's VAD Hospital, Holker House

St John's VAD Hospital, The Balmoral.

Its just possible there may be a VAD by the name of VERA BRITTAIN in the photo? She served at the Buxton hospital for a short period as she lived in Buxton with her parents. May be worth while trying to compare the images against an image of Vera. If there's a good match you have a great find!

Vera Brittain served at the Devonshire Hospital in Buxton, I have looked at the above photo and can't see anyone who looks like her as far as I can tell
