Guest Lightfoot Posted 8 October , 2006 Share Posted 8 October , 2006 Hi Newbie here, so please be gentle - most of this is probably very obvious to you! Can someone please decipher the three cards in the links? Two are for Edmund Victor Dobson, the third for William Albert Dobson. EDMUND VICTOR DOBSON WILLIAM ALBERT DOBSON All advice greatly appreciated! Lightfoot

HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 8 October , 2006 Share Posted 8 October , 2006 The index Card for Edmund Dobson: Awarded 1914~15 Star;BWM & Allied Victory Medal. Card, shows him as being commissioned from the Ranks into 3rd Bn;West Yorkshire Regt. He was originally 15910;L/Cpl in the Yorks Regt & 43645;Sgt in the W.Yorks R. As happens with officer from the ranks Cards one was cancelled as the Medals were issued from the other{to prevent a "double" issue}these references are Cross referenced by the AMO for their use. He went to France{1} on 26th August 1915. The codes by the Medal entries refer to the Medal Roll Pages, from which they were issued. William A.Dobson RASC. Awarded British War Medal & Allied Victory Medal. His two numbers indicate service with Motorised Transport{M~Prefix} & Supply{S~Prefix};again the codes refer to The Medal Rolls.
