Transfers in Medal Roll Books usually indicate possible wounds/sickness or disbandment of unit. The former would result in a man being sent to either a Base Hospital or returned to the UK, but once recovered and after recuperation there was no guaranteeing he would return to the unit he enlisted in. Dates are difficult to determine and would only be found on your service records.

Many regulars who were were wounded/sick during the early battles/stages of WWI ended up being posted to Garrison Battalions, some of which were stationed in India. Sadly many died as a result of their previous injuries/sickness i.e. the 2nd Garrison Bn, Northumberland Fusiliers lost 179 men between 1916-1919.

Thanks for the help.

I have managed to find out that 8 Bn (Service) Royal Munster Fusiliers was disbanded in France and 21 officers and 446 men were drafted into 1 Bn Royal Munster Fusiliers . 23 Nov 1916. Which would give a possible date for the first transfer between battalions.
