3rdID Posted 2 October , 2006 Share Posted 2 October , 2006 Has anyone else read this book about the REF? I thought it was pretty good until the "battle" of La Courtine ends. After that I felt the author bombarded the reader with too much information irrelevant to the REF. I don't really need to know about every diplomatic message sent between France and the Soviets and every ship that brought Russians back to France. It became tedious to read, IMO. I would probably give it 3/5.
gem22 Posted 3 October , 2006 Share Posted 3 October , 2006 I think you're being very generous with your score. I really hoped to learn something interesting from this book but in the end I threw it away unfinished and I will not be going back. Garth
3rdID Posted 3 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 3 October , 2006 Well I went in with a very minimum of prior knowledge about the REF.
paul guthrie Posted 6 October , 2006 Share Posted 6 October , 2006 I thought it was quite good, have read it twice and recently visited their Champagne battlefields again, the chapel too where I was befriended by a black cat! Beside the Russian cemetery on chapel grounds are buried Russians who stayed in France and some wives.
