Bob Chandler Posted 24 September , 2006 Share Posted 24 September , 2006 About 3 years ago, on a Rotary club trip to Ypres, we were taken to lunch by the local contact club at a restaurant somewhere out Dikkebus way (I think), a large establishment on the left side of the road coming from Ypres, on a ridge with woods to the rear, just through a village, with a large function room upstairs with big windows giving views over the surrounding countryside. Trying to locate it again for a possible return visit. Does this ring any bells with anyone? thanks Charles
Aurel Sercu Posted 24 September , 2006 Share Posted 24 September , 2006 The first thing that crossed my mind was de "Scherpenberg". (Large, left side, on a ridge, woods behind it, large function rooms, big windows with nice views). However, this is a "feestzaal" (large groups), as far as I know not really a place you can just pop in for a meal. And most of all : "Scherpenberg" is not really Dikkebus anymore. It's 4.5 km (almost 3 miles) past Dikkebus-centre, and even past De Klijte, and closer to the next village, Loker. If you want me to give an address, telephone number, email address or link to their website, so that you can find out if this is the one you have in mind (based on the website) let me know. frie Posted 25 September , 2006 Share Posted 25 September , 2006 Aurel and Charles, In this establishment at the "De Scherpenberg" there is a "feestzaal" for large groups (right side) but there's also "The Baronie" restaurant.(left side upstairs)
Bob Chandler Posted 25 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 25 September , 2006 Yes, this is definitely the place we went to, did not realise it was so far out of town. The problem is that every time we go to Ypres we go the the 'Vivaldi' for dinner, which is a nice place, no problems there, but we fancied trying somewhere different this time. Trouble is, I like the local dishes, but a couple of our friends are a bit more 'chicken and chips'! thanks for your help Charles
Rockdoc Posted 26 September , 2006 Share Posted 26 September , 2006 When we went last year, we had a very enjoyable short stay at the Camalou B&B on Dikkebusseweg, between Ieper and Dikkebus. There's a pub called something like The Tommie more or less next door. It's not much to look at but the food and service are top drawer.
