withcall Posted 22 September , 2006 Share Posted 22 September , 2006 I bought this book years ago, and found it good value. It basically takes a series of detailed pieces of action taken from memoirs and diaries, and traces them back to where they happened, along with sketch maps and contemporary photographs. It includes 'scenes' from Frank Richards, Ernst Junger and other less celebrated writers and diarists. Has anyone else read this...? What did you think......? Did they ever write anything else...? Malcolm Posted 22 September , 2006 Share Posted 22 September , 2006 Yes, I have a copy that I got cheap at a sale. It is marked in the inside cover with a stamp ' Edinburgh City Libraries -- withdrawn ' It was £1. There are some interesting sketches in it. isanders Posted 22 September , 2006 Share Posted 22 September , 2006 They also wrote "Battlefield Berlin: Siege, Surrender and Occupation, 1945", a good book too and sounds like more or less along the same lines as "Fields of Death". Peter Slowe also wrote a biography of Manny Shinwell FYI you can get "Fields of Death" at £6 currently on abebooks.co.uk
