Does anyone have any information about the following men?

I am putting together a local history book (well really a Roll of Honour), I have found a lot of details about the men from the West Lothian Courier Archives, SDGW, CWGC, SNWM and the United Collieries Active Service Roll 1914 - 1919.

However there is still a lot of info that I don’t have.

Guest christopherfriel

Hello there,

I have some information on Edward Friel, mostly just family information I came across while compiling my genealogy. Edward was one of 14 children born to Hugh and Annie Friel. The family was originally from Portstewart, Derry, Ireland, but later moved to the Armadale area because of the extensive coal mining there (just about every male in the family was a coalminer). Edward was one of several family membes to serve in The Great War. My great-grandfather, Hugh Friel (Edwards nephew) also served, he was a member of the Argyl & Sutherland Highlanders (sp?). According to my grandfather, Hugh's son, who is still alive today, while on leave Hugh went to visit his uncle Edward, unfortuneately Edward was killed in action just the day before he arrived. Whether or not Edward had any children prior to his death is unknown to me. Any information you may have about Edward or any other of the Friel's who served in the war would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me directly if you wish at christopherfriel@yahoo.com.
