Guest seatleon100 Posted 13 September , 2006 Share Posted 13 September , 2006 Hi I am trying to trace my great grandfather who I have found was in the Lancashire Fusilers in 1916. No one else in the family even knew that he was in the army. He was born in 1882 so that would have made him 34. I thought that soldiers would have been much younger than this. All I know is that he was a private and his number. He also survived the war. His profession before he was in the army was a tool polisher. I would also like to know how soldiers were allocated to their regiment. Any help you can offer me in trying to find out more info would be appreciated. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 13 September , 2006 Share Posted 13 September , 2006 Check out "Grandads War" on the Long Long Trail Link @ the top of the Forum, there are a number of avenues you can follow to discover more about his WW1 service. @ 34 he was not the oldest but by no means too old for service Overseas a search of threads will reveal ages from 14~70+
