Sue Light Posted 2 November , 2003 Share Posted 2 November , 2003 Lesley I think it might be from John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress" Sue
Kate Wills Posted 2 November , 2003 Share Posted 2 November , 2003 When the day that he must go hence was come, many accompanied him to the River-side, into which as he went he said, Death, where is thy Sting? And as he went down deeper he said, Grave, where is thy Victory? So he passed over, and all the Trumpets sounded for him on the other side. — John Bunyan, Pilgrims Progress
Tom Morgan Posted 2 November , 2003 Share Posted 2 November , 2003 When the day that he must go hence was come, many accompanied him to the River-side, into which as he went he said, Death, where is thy Sting? And as he went down deeper he said, Grave, where is thy Victory? So he passed over, and all the Trumpets sounded for him on the other side. — John Bunyan, Pilgrims Progress I was in the cathedral at Ypres for a wedding in August, and during a rather wordy bit of the ceremony I was looking around and saw that section of "Pilgim's Progress" on a British memorial on one of the pillars near to where I was sitting. The quotation on the memorial was a bit longer than Kate's quote. Here's the other part, which I found very moving. Tom Then said he, I am going to my Father's, and tho’ with great difficulty I am got hither, yet now I do not repent me of all the Trouble I have been at to arrive where I am. My Sword I give to him that shall succeed me in my Pilgrimage, and my Courage and my Skill to him that can get it. My Marks and Scars I carry with me, to be a witness for me that I have fought his Battles who now will be my Rewarder.
