Pettsy Posted 10 September , 2006 Share Posted 10 September , 2006 Hi can anyone help or advise me? I have just found out, thanks to Susan, who has the National Roll of the Great War Index That my great grandfather was Pte J. Cannon Royal Fusillers Z1769. I cannot find his medal card with that number. He volunteered in Aug 1914, was sent to Malta on important duties until April 1916, transfered to France where he took part in fierce fighting on the Somme. Was wounded and lost his left arm Sent home April 1917. Received general service and victory medal. And I would guess the SWB too. Thank you Pettsy
stiletto_33853 Posted 10 September , 2006 Share Posted 10 September , 2006 Pettsy, I think you will find that is some other kind of reference, although what for I am not sure. If you look at the rolls it has the gentlemans name and Regiment, his details etc etc and then at the very end it has this number. I have found a lot with the Z and TZ reference. They are not the gentlemans service number. Andy

I will try and find out what the "Z" stands for. Pettsy

Pettsy Posted 10 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 10 September , 2006 Hi Coldstreamer, It could be that one, I will have to copy it next time I go to FRC. Thank you for looking. Royal Fusilliers was mentioned as his regiment in the book Susan has. As he was from London, it could be 1st London Reg. Pettsy
