I received this email today from someone called Pawel Tomek

Hello:

I have some medals and helmets (Pickelhaubes) from the first world war WWI.

These are all genuine, original items. If you think you could have any

interest, please let me know.

All the best.

Pawel

I looked on the web and found various references to him on the Sword Forum International as a scammer, and also a complaint on a dealer’s website who claimed to have sent payment for a Japanese sword that was never received. He seems to have moved on to WW1 items.

Regards

Simon

Simon,

I live in the village where Samson FARNELL who is listed on your signature lived. I am researching him along with the men listed on the War Memorial. What I know of Samson is as follows:

Name Samson Farnell

Address 27, Low St., Cheslyn Hay, Walsall.

NOK Son of John and Ellen Farnell,

Rank Sapper

No 112552

Regt 179th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers

Date of Death 23.12.1915

How Died

Theatre France and Flanders

Buried NORFOLK CEMETERY, BECORDEL-BECOURT

Notes Probably the first instance of a local soldier having died from natural causes whilst in the trenches, is that of Sapper Samson Farnell of 27 Low Street, Cheslyn Hay, who succumbed while on active service in France with the Royal Engineers, some weeks ago. He a single man, 38 years of age and previous to enlisting in the early part of the war worked at Mssrs Hawkins Colliery, Cheslyn Hay. (Walsall Observer and South Staffordshire Chronicle dated 15th January 1916).

His brother Richard also died:

Name Richard FARNELL

NOK Son of John and Ellen Farnell,

Rank Sapper

No 102911

Regt 178th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers

Date of Death 02.07.1916

How Killed in Action

Theatre France and Flanders

Buried NORFOLK CEMETERY, BECORDEL-BECOURT

I have a phot of Samson, which is attached. I hope this is of interest to you. Why the interest in Samson?

funny thing is my spam filter picked it up and placed it into the spam folder,

I asked about the helmet (sent the pics not long after) didnt log on the net cos of homework to do and other general school annoyances had 3 emails askin if i was interests and to email back (from 7.30pm to 9am next morning)
