Pettsy Posted 3 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 3 September , 2006 Am I right in thinking the medals were returned? Why would they have been returned? Both brothers medals have the same numbers. Would they have been returned together. Where would the medals be now, would we be able to claim them? Any advice please. Pettsy
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 3 September , 2006 Share Posted 3 September , 2006 It would appear that @ least one lot was returned for "adjustment" {adt} usually to correct a naming error, once amended they would have been returned to the recipient,or their NoK, The other lot might have been returned as there was no one to sign for them{Signature?}as they were sent out Registered Post, they may have been resent~ if not although issuing of WW1 medals has all but ceased{since he 1980s},you might if you press the AMO hard enough get them to relent & issue them,if they have never been issued previously, but I fear it might be an uphill struggle. Hi HB Thank your reply. I will try the AMO amd see what they have to say. I tried to get my grandfathers WW2 Medals from them before, with no joy. They had been issued, but no one in the family ever saw them. So we have no idea what my grandad did with them. We know he burnt all his photos, so maybe he burnt the medals too. I eneded up buying a set of five minitures, as a gift for my mum. Pettsy

I have heard many a tale of WW2 Veterans being disgusted with their Stars & Medals, a} having to apply for them. b} when they arrived being unamed. & c}the quality,or lack of it. they subsequently ended up in the bin,I have no doubt many regretted this in later life & re~applied for replacements.,or bought second hand ones, when they joined the RBL etc; that said many{including all my Paternal & Maternal Uncles, didnt even bother to apply for them in the first place}
