Please Help

Hi

i am currently trying to research a British war medal that was given to my Husbands Grandfather. The only details i have are a name on the medal and an old photo and that my husbands grandfather came to this country from India, i understand that he was in the merchant Navy but have no proof of this.I have tried to search online but with no luck.

His Name is :NoorAllum Fatheydeen

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me ideas on where i need to look.

I dont think the Rolls to these Indian Mercantile Marine Service,BWM/Mercantile Marine War Medals are available,the rolls would originally have been held by the Indian Government & on Independence & Partition in 1947,much documentation was destroyed by the new Government.

The Medal Rolls were I believe retained & may still be held by the Indian Records departments.

I did try to research a similar Pair a couple of years ago without much luck.

You may have a little more sucess if he was serving in the UK Mercantile.

Some Records of Merchant seamen are held @ the NA but are not online.
