freakbeat Posted 27 August , 2006 Share Posted 27 August , 2006 Hi there I've just bought one of my grandads MIC (both were in the GW)...Could I ask you guys for a little help.Under the roll listing for the British medal it just says "do-do-",I'm not sure what this means. It also says it on a few of the other mic's that are copied along with my grandad's. Also can you tell me what other information I can get from the roll references alongside his Victory medal listing?....and/or where I can go from here to learn more about his time in the war?.... I have his regiment (NORTH STAFFS),his number (47090) and now his MIC. Many thanks in advance Paul
Terry Denham Posted 27 August , 2006 Share Posted 27 August , 2006 Paul This is simply shorthand for 'ditto'. If you can post a copy of the MIC, members may be able to give you more info. It probably means that he was entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Hmmmm..sorry that did'nt work...but the only other information on the whole card other than what I have already mentioned is the roll ref. of the victory medal...its something over 104 (written like a fraction..could be w or a squiggle??) ..and then B over 14...the page is 1764. Coldstreamer Posted 27 August , 2006 Share Posted 27 August , 2006 the number refer to the medal rolls and then the page number in that roll details on the rolls vary between units but can be a good source of further info specific details re specific units can be found in the war diary - all these are held at the National Archives, Kew

Coldstreamer Posted 27 August , 2006 Share Posted 27 August , 2006 would imagine its a letter - but once you post the MIC someone will know for certain They put lots of thing on the MIC that are hard to determine a meaning for - adds to the fun ! Terry Denham Posted 27 August , 2006 Share Posted 27 August , 2006 Paul To get a copy of the MIC on the Forum, scan/save the card as a jpg and ensure that it is 100kb or less. Glad to see you made it to the Forum after your initial problems!
