Do members have any information about this officer? He was the brother of the more famous T.E.Lawrence.

He was shot down by Hans-Joachim Buddecke in 1915 or 1916. I have tried to discover more about him via the internet with no success.

Cheers

2Lt William George Lawrence (formerly 3rd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry) was the observer in BE 2c 2017 of No 13 Sqn RFC, flown by Capt Cecil Huffnung Marks (formerly Middlesex Regiment), when they were shot down by Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Buddecke from Flieger Abteilung 23 on 23 October 1915. The BE was escorting a reconnaissance mission when it came down east of St Quentin. 2017 was the second of Buddecke's eventual 13 confirmed victories.

Ltn Ernst, Freiherr von Althaus from FA 23 was also involved in the attack on 2017, after Buddecke had left it to force land, and may have contributed to the 212 bullet holes found in the wreck.

The crew of 2017 were the first combat losses for No 13 Sqn, which was based at Vert Galand aerodrome at the time.

I hope this is useful.
