Remembered Today:

MICs

Hello

I have noted that there are frequent comments in the Soldiers Forum on the Board that suggest that the MICs are not a complete record.

Is this an urban myth or is it accurate?

Can anyone confirm an actual instance of research on a medal(s) where there has been no MIC but the issuing has been confirmed by reference to the medal rolls?

Regards

Mel

I think its fair to say that the MICs are not always the full story, for a start a soldier may have several and they are not always cross referenced , they dont specify mentioned in despatches and they dont always have any record of gallentry awards. So I think its a fair comment. Whether there are some that are absolutely wrong or missing is another matter and I have no idea. gareth

Hello Gareth

Sorry, I now realise that I did not frame my query in the manner that I intended. When I referred to a complete record I meant the suggestion that the MICs do not encompass all ORs that were entitled to campaign medals.

I am aware of the shortcomings that you mention plus the fact officers may not be included if they did not actually apply for the medals.

Hi Mel

There are many missing MIC's on-line, that does not mean the MIC cards are missing, there were many scanning errors. Also I am sure there were mistakes at time of producing the orginal cards.
