Remembered Today:

S.S. Victoria

I've recently discovered that a battalion I'm researching (the 10th Gordons) travelled to France in the S.S. Victoria. Can anyone tell me anything about this ship? If I do a google search on it I get quite a few diff SS Victoria's, and I'm unsure which one would be the right one.

Anyone help?

Barrie,

Very likely this one:

VICTORIA 1902

5,967 gross ton steamship, 401ft x 52.3ft, twin screw, speed 15 knots, accommodation for 130-1st class passengers. Built 1902 by Fairfield Co., Glasgow for the Pacific Steam Navigation Co., she started her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Montevideo and Valparaiso via Cape Horn on 5th Mar.1903 and was then placed on the Callao run. Between 1914-1918 she was used on government service and was scrapped in Holand in 1923.
