tolansmith Posted 21 August , 2006 Share Posted 21 August , 2006 My father served in the 84th Artillery Brigade, from which he was discharged in 1919. Our problem is that we always thought he served in Mesopotamia as well as on the Western Front. Indeed we have a Christmas card sent by him from Baghdad to his mother in December 1917. We have found no indication that any part of the 84th every served in Mesopotamia. Can anyone help sort this out. Thanks, Chris Tolan-Smith
Chris_Baker Posted 21 August , 2006 Share Posted 21 August , 2006 Quite right, Chris. LXXXIV Brigade was part of 18th (Eastern) Division until January 1917 when it was detached an became an "Army Brigade". It served on the Western Front. Have you tried to find his army service record, which would tell you more?

Chris - Many thanks for the prompt response, but, yes, we have tried his army number but this has proved to be one of (majority) for which the records do not survive. Any other ideas? Thanks again, Chris Tolan-Smith
